805 Beer releases film on professional surfer Lakey Peterson

Film features archival footage, behind-the-scenes moments, and commentary from professional surfers and industry figures

    – 805 Beer will release “Making Waves,” a film documenting the career of professional surfer Lakey Peterson, on March 1. The film will premiere globally on the World Surf League and YouTube.

“Making Waves” follows Peterson’s journey from Santa Barbara to international surf competitions, highlighting her achievements and challenges. The film features archival footage, behind-the-scenes moments, and commentary from professional surfers and industry figures, including Conner Coffin, Sage Erickson, Britt Merrick, Mike Parsons, and Strider Wasilewski.

“You don’t remember the wins or the losses,” Peterson says in the film. “You remember those in-between moments—being with the people you love, the places you go, the experiences that shape you. That’s what surfing is to me.”

Peterson, who has ranked as high as No. 2 in the World Surf League Championship Tour, was the first female surfer to land an aerial in National Scholastic Surfing Association women’s competition history. The film highlights her performances at Pipeline, the U.S. Open, Surf Ranch Pro, and Teahupo’o.

“Lakey’s journey embodies everything 805 Beer stands for—perseverance, passion, and pushing limits,” said Dustin Hinz, chief marketing officer of Firestone Walker Brewing Company. “Through ‘Making Waves,’ we’re honored to share her story—one of resilience, self-discovery, and the unbreakable bond between a surfer and the ocean.”

The film continues 805 Beer’s focus on storytelling, following previous releases such as “Convergence,” “The House That Built Me,” and “Another Eight Seconds.”
