    – A man died Monday morning in an accident along the Big Sur coast when the vehicle he was repairing rolled downhill, according to multiple reports. The incident was reported at 7:55 a.m. near the 38100 block of Palo Colorado Road, approximately nine miles south of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve and four miles off Highway 1.

The man was reportedly dragged 10 to 15 feet downhill into a creek while working on the vehicle. His wife had told him the vehicle was experiencing starting issues prior to the accident, according to a report by the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The man was identified in multiple reports as Brent Bispo, a former firefighter.

The Mid Coast Fire Brigade acknowledged Bispo’s death in a statement posted online, saying,

“It is with a very heavy heart I announce the sudden and unexpected passing of retired firefighter Brent Bispo. Brent protected the Mid Coast community for many years and along with Brice Hall and Brian Gorrell started Monterey County’s First Official Water Rescue Program. Brent was the first engineer promoted to Captain and was a natural leader and teacher to many saving the life of a firefighter in a water tender rollover during an out-of-county response by using the jaws to cut him out. He will be missed.. his firefighting brother Logan Loader I am sure was there to greet him! Miss you already brother! Aloha Brent!”
