Mandatory drug testing for Templeton athletes is reinstated
–Special from the Soaring Eagle Press–
2 positive tests will result in the loss of athletic privileges for entire career at TMS or THS

In 2009, during the budgetary crisis, TUSD had eliminated mandatory pre-season drug testing for athletes as a cost saving measure. With the budget now on a more even keel, the board of trustees has approved bringing back the practice.
A positive test will result in suspension from the sport for 45 days. A second positive test will result in the loss of athletic privileges for the rest of the student’s middle school (if at TMS) or high school (THS) career. There is an appeal process that kicks in one year after that determination.
To learn more, please review the 2014-15 Student Athlete Handbook which should be available in about three weeks.
I love to see that Templeton is taking this all serious. But it shouldn't just be Athletes, it should be all extra curricular. But bigger than that we need education and awareness brought in before most start experimenting before heading to Jr. High. Looking forward to being involved and speaking in Templeton again next year and hope it can "make a difference".
I agree, so much more needs to be done.
Hi Donna, I very much look forward to seeing you in Templeton in the upcoming school year. I am one of the trustees in TUSD, and I believe I can speak for all of us on the board, we are serious about making a difference when it comes to keeping drugs out of the hands of our students. It would be ideal if we could test other extracurricular activities, but that is a budgetary and resource topic to discuss amongst all concerned stakeholders. We also understand that students need education about substance abuse before they reach middle school, and we have ideas and plans for the welfare of our students across the continuum. Please attend our board meetings, and you can always reach us via school district email. Thank you for your concern and all your work.
