Concert series’ move to Thursday night draws smaller crowds

    – The attendance at last week’s Concert in the Park concert featuring Incendio drew crowds about half as big as last year’s Incendio concert. According to REC Foundation Recreation Services Manager Linda Holt, the concert still drew crowds about 20-25-percent larger than the first concert of the summer. Concerts in the park attendance 2

Holt said, “We had about 2,000-2,500 people attend the Incendio concert. Last year, there was about 4,000 attendees.”

Holt said that the concert, in the REC foundation’s perspective, was still a great success. “We still think that the move to Thursdays is a win-win, and we can’t imagine going back.” She said that the move positively affects merchants in particular. She also said that the crowd at the last few concerts seemed to be comprised of more locals than at years prior. “We are expecting steady growth, and anticipate a larger crowd at this week’s event.”concerts attendance

I'm hoping the merchants are the winners in changing the Concerts to Thursday, but only stands to reason the Concerts will suffer when tourists usually don't arrive in town until Friday. Will be interesting to see what the future holds.

too tough to get there on Thursday. move back to Friday

Everyone I talk to is not going on Thursday. Fridays where much better. Not only we are not going to the concerts on Thursday we are not going to dinner on Thursdays after the concerts. Looks like Atascadero is going to get our business on Saturdays.

I liked Fridays better. Also, people have seen Incendio many times so maybe they'll come out more for something different.

I like Thursdays, better parking and fewer tourists taking up space. But if it's triple digits outside, it doesn't matter what day it is…I can turn on the stereo and drink margaritas in the pool…COOL is better than a hot FOOL.

Thursday is the better nignt. It gives customers of the merchants a better chance of getting a parking space. The people going to the concert are not cattering to the downtown businesses. They are there for the FREE concert. The only way it will change is if the" city" (not the merchants) cough up some money for a parking garage.

    Love the move to Thursday!

Templeton Concerts in the Park start at 6:30-8:30…….much better timing for people who have to work. Also it's much cooler at 6:30. I suggest changing the start time to 6:30.
