Surveys show Peschong leading supervisorial race

    poll for supervisors race

    John Peschong

Recent surveys show political consultant John Peschong leading the race for 1st District San Luis Obispo County Supervisor. The election is June 7. Some residents have already voted by mail, as absentee ballots were sent to voters May 2.

The candidates for the seat are Paso Robles Mayor Steve Martin, Paso Robles City Councilman John Hamon, Paso Robles retired attorney Dale Gustin, and political consultant John Peschong of Templeton. Frank Mecham is the current supervisor and is not seeking re-election.

A survey was sent by email on Monday to 3,721 Paso Robles Daily News subscribers. Of the 1,681 subscribers who opened the survey, 162, or about 10-percent, voted.

    Poll results

    • John Peschong, 50 percent
    • Steve Martin, 21 percent
    • John Hamon, 18 percent
    • Undecided/not voting, 8 percent
    • Dale Gustin, 3 percent

*Poll totals were updated at 4 p.m., May 24, 2016

The results confirm an April 7 survey of readers on the website, which gave Peschong a lead in the race with 42-percent. The results also match an automated telephone poll conducted by Cal Coast News last week. The poll of 418 voters showed Peschong leading with 45-percent, followed by Martin with 32-percent and John Hamon with 23 percent.

If one candidate earns more than 50 percent of the votes in the June election, he wins the District 1 supervisor’s seat. If not, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will face off in the Nov. 8 election.

If you are going to conduct your own poll and report its results to your readers at least have the decency to present it objectively rather than making it appear that it is a foregone conclusion that he will win. John has much more money to work with which unfortunately is influencing your opinion of how well he will perform. As a paper you need to be objective or take a stance openingly about who you are supporting.
