Looking Back: John Steinbeck Paso Robles Guest

Excerpt from the Paso Press, Thursday, December 19 1940
John Steinbeck, author, who won both fame and recrimination two years ago as author of ”Grapes of Wrath”, revealed plans while in Paso Robles this week, for a new play to be dedicated to the Mexican peoples. The play, as yet unnamed, will have its premiere in Mexico City, with an all-native cast. Characters will be portrayed in pantomime, the author said.
Steinbeck was a dinner guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hamilton Thursday evening. After a brief visit in Hollywood where he expects to obtain material ‘ for the play, Steinbeck will return to Mexico City for its completion. He has leased an estate there with its full complement of servants and retainers.
