Adventist Health hosts painting event for stroke survivors in Morro Bay

Free event aims to encourage connection and creative expression

    – Adventist Health will host a free painting class for stroke survivors and their support networks May 29 at the Morro Bay Art Center in recognition of National Stroke Awareness Month.

The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the art center, located at 835 Main St. in Morro Bay. According to the announcement, the event is intended for stroke patients, spouses, caregivers, and friends, and is designed to promote community connection and creative expression.

Adventist Health is partnering with the Hope for Stroke Survivors support group for the event.

According to the organization, strokes can affect balance, strength, speech, vision, emotions, and coordination, depending on the area of the brain affected. The organization said recreational and social activities can help stroke survivors experiencing depression and changes in independence after a stroke.

The organization said activities such as group painting can help participants work on strength, coordination, memory, and visual processing skills while also encouraging social connection.

RSVPs are required because space is limited. Attendees must email Irthummc@ah.org by May 27 to participate.

Adventist Health also offers a monthly stroke support group that meets from 1 to 2 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. Meeting locations alternate between Adventist Health Sierra Vista and Adventist Health Twin Cities. To learn more, visit Hope for Stroke Support Group – Adventist Health Sierra Vista.
