Adventurous Paso Robles couple offers ‘workamping’ classes this fall

–Paso Robles residents Don and Joyce Wells have teamed with Paso Robles Recreation Services to offer workamping classes beginning in October. Workamping is an opportunity for people of all ages to see the country while volunteering or working in spectacular locations. The couple will share their 35 years of RV travel and workamping experiences in two classes, “Getting on the Road,” and “Lessons Learned on the Road.”

The workamping seed was planted for the Wells over 30 years ago on a visit to Sequoia National Park. Not long after retiring from the banking industry, the couple officially began their workamping adventure at Glacier National Park. Since then they have worked or volunteered at national parks including Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Glacier, Teton and Denali. The couple returned to the area in 2013 for Don to work as a California State Parks Guide at Hearst Castle.

“Workamping has given us the opportunity to meet many incredible people while working and living in some of the most stunning places in the country,” said Don Wells. “These lands are for our exploring, so just go. You will have the experience of a lifetime!” Dates for the classes are Oct 11 and 12, Nov 15 and 16 and Dec 6 and 7 from 7–9 p.m. in the Centennial Park Live Oak Room, 600 Nickerson Drive, Paso Robles.

The cost of each class is $55, with a $10 discount for those who register for both “Getting on the Road” and “Lessons Learned on the Road.” Separate registration is required for each class. A spouse may attend the classes free of charge. Register online, or in person from noon–5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Centennial Park Recreation Services registration desk, 600 Nickerson Drive.

Paso Robles fall Recreation Guides are currently available at Centennial Park, City Hall, the City Library and various businesses throughout the city. Recreation classes may also be viewed online. To receive a recreation guide by mail call (805) 237-3988 or email mailing address to recservices@prcity.com.
