–This week, Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham (R-San Luis Obispo) along with key state leaders discussed the importance of Career Technical Education (CTE) during an informational hearing that was held at the State Capitol. Throughout the hearing, elected officials and educational leaders emphasized the importance of CTE, how it benefits students and the economy, as well as efforts to increase awareness and funding for future programs.

“I’ve made Career Technical Education a priority because I believe there’s nothing more important for the long-term success of our economy and the strength of our middle class,” said Cunningham.

Cunningham along with Assemblyman Pat O’Donnell (D-Long Beach), who led the hearing and acts as the Chair of the Education Committee, have joined efforts to co-sponsor a bill (AB 1743) that would provide $500 million a year to CTE programs over the next three school years.

Cunningham added, “Between our local colleges, high schools and organizations, we have some really positive things happening when it comes to Career Technical Education. I’m working hard to support their efforts and ensure these programs have the resources needed to help our students and region thrive in today’s economy.”

A former Member of the Templeton Unified School Board, father of four and small business owner, Jordan Cunningham lives in San Luis Obispo County and represents the communities of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Cambria, Paso Robles, Grover Beach, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Orcutt, Pismo Beach, Templeton, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Maria, and surrounding communities.
