–Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham (R- Templeton) has announced that key pieces of his legislative agenda cleared the full Assembly last week with bi-partisan votes. The bills included proposals to keep our children safe from marijuana to studying the feasibility of repurposing the Diablo Canyon desalination facility for local water use.

“I am proud to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance common sense legislation that will improve and benefit the Central Coast,” Cunningham said. “These measures would help small business, improve transparency in state government, enhance public safety, and explore creative ways to expand our water supply.  I look forward to fighting for these proposals in the Senate.”

Water:

  • AB 457 would study the feasibility of repurposing the Diablo Canyon water desalination facility into a viable source of local water.

Public Safety:

  • AB 484 adds rape by fraud and rape by authority of a public official who threatens deportation or incarceration to the list of offenses that require registration as a sex offender.
  • AB 1090 prohibits possessing, smoking, or ingesting marijuana or marijuana products in or upon the grounds of a school, day care center, or youth centers.
  • AB 1339 requires an employer to disclose employment information relating to a current or former employee who has applied for a position other than a sworn peace officer within a law enforcement agency.

Improving state government:

  • AB 657 requires state agencies that significantly regulate small business to make known the name and contact information of their small business liaison on their website, and to inform the administration of a vacancy in that position within 15 working days and to fill that vacancy without three months.
  • AB 866 authorizes a city or county to display the American Flag and the California State Flag as part of a gateway monument if the flags are maintained by the city or county.
  • AB 996 would require the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB) to make improvements to its website to allow the monitoring of a licensee’s renewal of a certificate of worker’s compensation insurance or certification of self-insurance that is pending before the CSLB.

Cunningham represents all of San Luis Obispo County and a portion of Santa Barbara County, including the cities of Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Grover Beach, Lompoc, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach, Templeton, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and surrounding communities.
