Atascadero Greyhounds win Firecracker Baseball Tournament

–The Atascadero Greyhounds beat the Templeton Eagles 7-4 Wednesday night to win the Firecracker Baseball Tournament at Paso Robles High School. The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and southpaw Robbie Lardner held the Greyhounds at Bay until Eagle errors allowed Atascadero to score five runs in the 4th inning. The game was called after six innings because of darkness. The lights at Barnhart Field would not function.

Six teams participated in the tournament. Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, Colusa, and two teams from Redding.
Paso Robles beat the Nor Cal All-Stars from Redding in the first game Wednesday afternoon to place 5th.

Second year Bearcat Head Coach Jonathon Thornhill revived the Firecracker Tournament after several years absence,
“The tournament enhances the Bearcat baseball program by giving younger players more playing experience against good teams. We also raised some money for uniforms and other expenses. It was a great tournament. Next year will be bigger and better.”
