Atascadero mayor says COVID-19 virus is in Atascadero

Atascadero Mayor Heather Moreno released a Youtube video on Sunday in which she says the COVID-19 virus is in Atascadero. “We now know the virus is currently in Atascadero,” she says in the video.

“We received information through unofficial channels leading us to believe that one of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 is in Atascadero,” Moreno told the Paso Robles Daily News.

“That said, it’s clear that with all of the people that we come in contact with throughout the normal course of our daily lives that all of us should assume that the virus is in each of our communities, just not yet identified via testing,” she said.

So far, three people in San Luis Obispo County have tested positive for COVID-19. As of Monday, the county health department reported one person in the North County and two people in South County. Despite repeated requests, county health officials refuse to disclose the communities they live in.

“To protect their identity, we will not disclose any additional information about the individual, including where they live,” said Michelle Shoresman, a spokeswoman with the County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Agency.
