Atascadero motorists to face delays during road rehabilitation project

Full roadway reconstruction is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 8

    – The City of Atascadero has awarded a construction contract for the Santa Lucia Road West Pavement Rehabilitation Project to Souza Construction.

The project will rehabilitate about 1.75 centerline miles, or 3.5 lane miles, of Santa Lucia Road. The work will take place from Portola Road to Santa Ana Road and from Santa Ana Road to Laurel Road. These roadway segments are classified as a collector roadway, providing access to and from residential areas on the city’s west side.

Full roadway reconstruction is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 8. Pre-construction activities, including potholing and culvert replacement, are ongoing through Sept. 5. The work is expected to take about three and a half months to complete.

During construction, motorists and pedestrians may experience delays of up to 15 minutes. The contractor will provide traffic control and flaggers. City officials ask residents to be respectful of construction workers and to drive carefully through the area.

The pavement project follows the recently completed Santa Lucia Bridge Replacement Project, which included a full bridge replacement and revegetation effort in Graves Creek. The bridge project received an award for its completion.
