Atascadero State Hospital hosting career fair
–Get a head start on a brand new career by visiting the Atascadero State Hospital Career Fair, Sept. 9, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The hospital offers a wide range of career opportunities in 173 job classifications, including non-clinical positions in administration, automotive, food services, housekeeping, information technology, law enforcement, and plant operations, and clinical positions in nursing, psychiatry, psychology and social work.
“We’re looking for individuals who want a great career with opportunities for advancement and great benefits,” said hospital Executive Director Stirling Price.
Visitors to the Career Fair can attend workshops on “How to Get a State Job” and receive assistance in filling out their job application. Hospital staff and managers will be available to answer questions about employee benefits and what it’s like to work there. No reservations are required to attend.
When General Services Administrator Mary Lou Hutchison started working at the hospital 31 years ago, she thought it would just be a summer job. “This is not only a job, but a community,” she said. “I have met staff here who are friends for life. This job offers stability, benefits and good retirement. It’s for anyone wanting longevity of a job where your employer supports you and wants you to promote.”
Chief Psychiatrist Dr. David Fennell, who joined the hospital in 1996, said he appreciates the passion and skill of the hospital’s clinical staff. “When new staff come on board they soon realize they are working with the best clinical staff anywhere,” he said. “You will be rewarded every day as you make a difference in a patient’s life and in your own clinical development.”
