Aug. 3: Espritu sings the Blues on a Ukulele
Blues vocalist Aireene Espritu and her Ukulele
Performance is Sat., Aug. 3, from 1-4 p.m. at Vines on the Marycrest
Blues vocalist Aireene Espritu will play her Ukulele this weekend in Paso Robles. Aireene’s performances draw influences from the deep, earthy, heart-felt voicings of some of her favorite singers such as Odetta, Etta James, and Nina Simone.
Her lyrics celebrate human beings being human, stories from ghosts and the living, and identities of cultures within cultures. Her music blends latin/african rhythms, folk, bluegrass pickings and inspirations from gospel music – a mix of stompin’, swayin’, and timeless Americana.
Special guests include Santa Barbara’s Kat Devlin, fingerstyle guitarist Jennifer Martin, Julian Temple of New Zealand’s Julian Temple Band, and guest host Cliff Stepp.
The show runs 1-4 p.m. at Vines on the Marycrest, 5076 Mustard Creek Road in Paso Robles. It’s off Lake Nacimiento Road, across the street from Chronic Cellars. (805) 237-0378. There is no cover charge and all ages are welcome.
