Author and child actor bring ‘Unicorn Jazz’ to Virginia Peterson Elementary
–Earlier this month, students at Virginia Peterson Elementary learned the importance of celebrating diversity, belonging, creative writing, and happiness through a virtual experience presented by 12-year-old student and actress Emily Isabel and children’s author, Lisa Caprelli. To date, over 500,000 students have been impacted by their efforts.
Educators and students of Virginia Peterson Elementary listened to a reading of Unicorn Jazz, a story that celebrates uniqueness and introduces a shy unicorn named Jazz who moves to a new land but struggles to make animal friends, until she meets someone who believes in her, with an odd name, Woof the Crow. Unicorn Jazz engages young readers while imparting valuable life lessons that support positive social-emotional learning.

Following the reading, Isabel and Caprelli shared interactive, empowering messages surrounding literacy, social-emotional learning, and imagination. Before signing off, students were shown animated, educational music videos, and students were encouraged to ask questions.
Emily Isabel is part of the Unicorn Jazz kid’s club, a musically-inspired brand dedicated to creating and sharing happiness for kids through stories and digital media. It is through this educational platform that Isabel has the opportunity to encourage boys and girls her age to dream big, dance, sing and read. She’s been recognized for her creativity and kindness nationally through publications such as Good Morning America.
Caprelli’s books engage young readers while also imparting some valuable life lessons for audiences of any age about the power of confidence, the value of diversity, and why we should celebrate what makes us unique.
