AYSO soccer team takes 2nd place at championship 

The Paso Robles AYSO Region 741 boys U19 finished up a successful season with a second place finish at the AYSO Section 10 Championship in Bakersfield Nov. 8-9.

After an undefeated season of 12 wins, 2 ties, no loses, and a playoff victory over Lompoc, the Paso U19 Boys earned the right to represent area Q – Paso Robles, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, 5-Cities, Nipomo, Lompoc and Santa Ynez – in the Section 10 Championships.

The top teams from the eight areas of AYSO Section 10 areas competed in pool play with the winners moving onto the playoffs. Paso Robles beat Tri-Com 2-0 behind 2 goals from Felipe Aguilar in Saturday’s first game. Sefe Gutierrez and Daniel Viramontes each scored a goal in the 2-0 victory over Woodland Hills.

The third and final game of pool play ended in a 0-0 tie with Newbury Park, which earned Paso the top seed from pool A. In the semi-finals, Paso Robles tied Fillmore 0-0 in regulation time, went into overtime, and won 1-0 with a goal by Daniel Viramontes who scored off a throw-in from Matthew Mihelic. Paso lost the championship game 1-2 to Newbury Park with the lone Paso goal scored by Kirby Walton.
