Backyard burn season suspended in San Luis Obispo County
Agricultural burners may continue to burn on permissive burn days with valid permits
– Effective June 2, due to statewide fire conditions and fire suppression forces being heavily committed to controlling fires, Cal Fire San Luis Obispo is declaring the end of Backyard Burn Season. All burning authorized under Backyard Burn Permits issued by the Air Pollution Control District is now suspended.
Agricultural burners may continue to burn on permissive burn days with a valid Air Pollution Control District Burn Permit and a Cal Fire LE-62a or LE-5 Burn Permit.
Residents within State Responsibility Areas are required to maintain 100 feet of defensible space around all habitable structures on their property. In addition to maintaining defensible space, residents are encouraged to avoid activities that could spark unwanted fires, such as mowing dry vegetation during warm, dry, or windy weather.
Campfires within organized campgrounds or on private property that are otherwise permitted will be allowed if the campfire is maintained in a manner that prevents its spread to the wildland.
