Music festival for a cause a ‘dream project’ of local man

– Local man Anthony Randazzo’s dream project has come to life; inspired by his beloved aunt, Randazzo has created the Bash Cancer Fest, a local food and music festival attracting tri-county families, university students and community members of all ages. All proceeds from the event will go directly to local SLO kids battling cancer. This year’s festival will take place on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Red Barn located at 2180 Palisades Avenue in Los Osos, next to the skate park.

Inspired by his love of music, Randazzo, a lecturer at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, enlisted his students within the Industrial Technology and Packaging Area to create a full-scale festival as part of the project management curriculum. “Many of our students have been affected by cancer in one way or another, and for some this is a labor of love, not just a school assignment,” shared Randazzo. The students and members of the greater San Luis Obispo community have come together to organize a community event with an inspiring message of hope for local families affected by pediatric cancer.

The Bash Cancer Fest offers a full day of music by local bands such as Surfeza, Turkey Buzzards, Driftwood Brothers, and The Bogies. Many other singer / songwriters will perform as well as Dan Waters, Brian Hendricks, and Pat Pearson and Reika Cully. Food, beer, and local wines will be provided for sale. Tickets are $7 for adults, and are free for kids, available at the door.

In addition to food and music, Bash Cancer Fest will host a number of fundraising activities including an online silent auction that began Dec. 1st and is closing Dec. 12, and an in-person silent auction for guests in attendance featuring local wines, art, and more. The online auction is located at 32auctions.com/BashCancerFest2021. Additionally, raffle prizes will be drawn every hour for many local products and services. Winners must be present to redeem raffle prizes.

All proceeds from the Bash Cancer Fest support Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, a non-profit whose mission provides financial aid, emotional support and educational advocacy for low-to-moderate income families living in the tri-counties who have a child battling cancer. Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation (TBCF) is currently in the midst of their Project Holiday program which provides gifts, Christmas trees, stockings, meals, grocery gift cards and gas gift cards to the families they serve. “This type of tangible support is exactly what families need right now during the holidays,” said Brittany Avila Wazny, TBCF’s senior development director. “The holidays should be a season of joy, but when your child is fighting cancer, they often add an additional layer of stress and heartbreak. Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation is here to take away some of that holiday burden, and to ensure that every child in their household has a reason to celebrate.”

Since it’s founding in 2002 Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation has provided over $2,000,000 in financial aid to families battling cancer and continues to increase funding and services as the need grows. They are currently serving a record number of families in 2021.

The 2021 Bash Cancer Fest is sponsored mostly by local organizations within SLO County.
