Bearcat wrestlers advance after strong performances at championships
Four Bearcats earn spots at upcoming wrestling masters tournament
– The Paso Robles High School wrestling team competed in the CIF championships over the weekend, with several athletes qualifying for the upcoming masters tournament.
The girls wrestling team participated in the Division II championship at Mira Monte High School in Bakersfield. Denisse DeLaCruz Lopez placed third, securing a spot at the masters meet. Tiana Baslto finished ninth and earned an alternate position.
In the boys Division I competition at Clovis North High School, four wrestlers qualified for the masters tournament. Logan Camack placed seventh in the 120-pound category, while Drake Mello finished 10th. Brandon England earned seventh place, and Alan Melgar placed eighth. Alternates for the boys team include Octavio Martinez, Jaimon Montes, Kassim Williams, Pedro Coronado, Caleb Konoski, and Ashton Wirkus.
Both teams will compete at the Central Section Masters Tournament at Selland Arena in Fresno. Matches begin Friday, March 21, at 9 a.m.
“This event presents an exciting opportunity for the athletes to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level,” coach Nate Ybarra said.
