Bearcat Athletes of the Week: Tori Hollbrook, Jeremy Borm, Vander Gibson, Anthony Maldonaldo and Harlem Rickson

    Tori Hollbrook

    Tori Hollbrook.

    Athlete: Tori Hollbrook

    Year: Junior

    Position: Power forward

Comment: “Tori Hollbrook was a dominant defensive force in the Lady Bearcats’ 73–30 victory over the Santa Maria Saints. Tasked with guarding the Saints’ top scorer, Hollbrook delivered a shutdown performance, holding her opponent scoreless throughout the game when guarding her.

Her relentless on-ball pressure and anticipation led to five steals, repeatedly disrupting Santa Maria’s offense and fueling fast breaks for the Bearcats. Hollbrook’s defensive intensity set the tone early and never let up, playing a key role in the Lady Bearcats’ commanding win.

With her ability to neutralize the opposition’s best player and make game-changing defensive plays, Tori Hollbrook proved why she is this week’s Player of the Week.” -Coach Mark Martinez

    Jeremy Borm

    Jeremy Borm.

    Athlete: Jeremy Borm

    Year: Junior

    Stats vs Righetti 1/27- 16points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal

Comment: “Coach’s comment- Jeremy has been a consistent force for our team, controlling the paint on defense and producing on the offensive end. His free-throw and field goal percentages have improved this year. He continues to improve each game and has been leading our group by example.” -Chris Lopez, PE Teacher/Director of Sport Basketball

    Year: Freshmen

Comment: “Vander and Anthony have really stepped up this year making the varsity lineup, and have been battling and making huge strides. Lots of growth this year.” -Nathaniel Ybarra, Director of Sport: Wrestling.

    Athlete: Harlem Rickson

    Year: Junior

    Sport: Women’s Varsity Soccer

Comment: It doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet, but Harlem’s play has been integral to the success of the Lady Bearcats this season. She plays holding midfielder and center back, two positions of extreme importance in preventing goals from being scored and initiating our attack upfield. Harlem rarely comes off the field and is second on the team in minutes played with 1,460. She scored an amazing goal off a corner kick in our tie against Pioneer Valley on Jan. 9, and she sent in the corner kick we were able to convert for a last-minute goal to win versus Orcutt on Jan. 23. While she isn’t the most vocal person, her play and determination make her a leader on this team. The consistent effort she puts in on the practice field translates to her gameplay, where she works her tail off to win the ball, to prevent our opponents from advancing the ball, and to get open for her teammates to pass to. Keep up the great work, Harlem!” -Matt Thompson, Varsity Assistant Coach.
