Softball

Last Thursday, the Bearcats wrapped up a full week of PAC 8 softball with its third win in the same week last week. Paso started hot and scored two runs in the first inning off a Lya Abel base hit. The St. Joseph Knights took a 4 to 2 lead into the fifth inning. The Bearcats tied it up in the bottom of the fifth inning off a RBI triple by Rebecca Twyman and a RBI single by Jasmine Smiley. Senior pitcher Alyssa Valle kept St Joe away from the plate after the fifth. Paso Robles then blew the game open in the sixth inning. The big blow came off the bat of Sophia Prieto. She hit a bases-loaded Grand Slam and helped the team score eight runs in that inning. The Bearcats won 12 to 4 and move to 6 and 2 in league play.

This past Saturday the Bearcats swept a doubleheader Saturday against the visiting Hanford Bullpups. In the first game Paso won 7-3. Becca Stroud led the way going 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Lya Abel was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Catcher Jasmine Smiley also went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Pitchers Kinsey Metcalf, Hannah Chambers and Alyssa Valle did a great job against a very good hitting Hanford team.

In the second game, Becca Stroud continued to get on base. She went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Hannah Chambers got to contribute with her bat and had two RBIS in her three plate appearances. The game was tied at 4 in the sixth inning. Karli Whisenhunt led off the bottom of the sixth with a base hit to get things going. Brooke Milder was sent in to run for Karli. Keela Paz bunted and Brooke headed to 3rd from 1st. Hanford in an effort to get her at 3rd base threw the ball away and Milder scored the go-ahead run. Rowan Sciochetti earned her first varsity win by tossing the last 5 innings of the nightcap. Great weekend for Paso Softball.
