Bearcat sports results for May 10

–Paso Robles High School Director of Athletics, Anthony Morales, has announced the results of Bearcat athletics for May 10.

Softball

Paso Robles beat Mission College Prep by the score of 13 to 3. Rowan Schocetti entered the game in the third inning in relief of Kinsey Metcalf. Rowan proceeded to throw five scoreless no hit inning’s with 12 strikeouts and only two BB’s. Offensively it was another team effort. The Bearcats scored 13 runs on 14 hits. Paso finishes PAC 8 play with a 10 and 4 league record. They are tied with San Luis Obispo at 10 and 4 but hold the tiebreaker. Paso Robles will be the second place representative for the PAC 8 entering CIF playoffs. Looking at a first round game on Thursday, May 17.

The Paso JV Bearcats secured first place in PAC 8 JV softball this past Tuesday, defeating Righetti High School 7-4 at Liberty Field. Both teams had only one league loss coming into the contest (Righetti’s only loss was to the Bearcats earlier this season). The victory gave the Bearcats an 11-1 record in league this season, and a 19-2 mark overall.

Natalie Portillo, the only Paso pitcher on the roster for this game, was masterful in hitting her locations, turning back the Warriors’ aggressive hitting in every inning. The Bearcats were challenged by Righetti hitting and baserunning as the Warriors tried to take advantage of early defensive mistakes, but the Bearcats maintained the poise and composure that has marked their defense all season, and made several clutch defensive plays, including a stellar shoestring catch on the run by Sophia Hammond to end the inning with the tying runs on base. The hitting of Hannah Tibbetts (3 for 4, 3 runs), Nat Portillo (2 rbi) and Trinity Holland (2 rbi) kept the Bearcats in the lead.

The Paso JV offense scored 251 runs in 21 games, a whopping 11.9 runs per game, and slugged 69 extra base hits, including 11 homers, on their way to a .370 team batting average.

Baseball

Paso Robles varsity baseball hosted Mission College Prep High School on May 11 at 4:30 p.m. CIF playoffs begin next Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
