Bearcat sports results for May 3-8

–Paso Robles High School Director of Athletics, Anthony Morales, has announced the results of Bearcat athletics for May 3-8.

Swimming

As we recall swimming had their PAC 8 Finals last Thursday, May 3, 2018 and here is a recap:

With 13 new CIF times achieved, Paso Robles boys and girls swimming had many tremendous performances at the PAC 8 Championship meet in Arroyo Grande last Thursday. In a meet where every swimmer had at least one season best time it is difficult to narrow down the top achievements.

On the girl’s side sophomore Audrey Hughes won first in both the 50 free and the 100 back; where she was only a tenth of a second off of a 22-year-old school record. Freshman Kendall Moffitt won the 200 free and took second in the 500 free, narrowly touching out teammate Mackenzie Raymond who was second in the 200 and third in the 500. Other dominate performances came from freshman Abigail Springer (fifth in the 200 IM and fourth in the 500), Emily Christian (third in the 200 IM), Gabriel Clayton (fifth in the 100 free), Tatiana Smeltzer (fifth in the 100 back), and Sarah Clark (sixth in the 100 fly). Paso Relays also found a lot of success in all three of the girl’s attained CIF times, including a 400 freestyle relay first place finish to cement their second place standing at the meet.

The boy’s started the meet with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay (John Nash, Zack Tucker, Ethan Moore, and Gavin Hughes). Senior Gavin Hughes had two of the top Bearcat boy’s finishes with a third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 free. Senior Zach Tucker had a third place finish in the 100 breast, dropping three seconds, 1:04.06. Freshman Joshua Picard earned sixth in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 breast, John Nash was seventh in the 100 back, and Ethan Moore was eighth in the 100 fly. The boys ended up in fourth place after many strong performances.

This past weekend we were notified by CIF we had these amazing swimmers qualify for the Division 2 Southern Section CIF meet which is in Riverside on May 11 and 12. They are: three girls (Kendall Moffitt, Audrey Hughes, and Mackenzie Raymond) qualified for CIF in individual events and that two girls relays also qualified which include Gabriella Clayton, Emily Christian, Sarah Clark and Tatiana Smeltzer. Great job Bearcats.

Softball

Last Friday’s game brought the PAC 8 front runner Atascadero to Paso Robles High School. The Greyhounds came to town undefeated in league play. The Bearcats ended the Hounds winning streak and beat them 4-0. Senior Alyssa Valle tossed a complete game shutout and gave up only two hits. Great defense kept A-Town of the board Friday night. Offensively the Bearcats were led by senior catcher Jasmine Smiley. She went three for three at the plate with three RBI’s. All around great team effort Paso. Next up Righetti High School comes to our place on May 8 for a 4:30 p.m. game. This is our last regular season home game and it is senior night. Go Bearcats.
