Bearcat swim teams beat the hounds

swim team paso robles–Pounding rain and frigid temperatures did not slow down the Bearcat girls and boys swim teams as they roll past the Greyhounds on Friday, April 7.

The girls team won 9 out of 11 events and delivered a one-two punch in 6. Leading the way for the Lady Bearcats was Audrey Hughes and Mackenzie Raymond who both had 4 first place finishes on the day. Hughes touched first in the 100 butterfly, 500 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay while Raymond took top honors in the in 200 free, 100 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Other first place finishers were Tatiana Smeltzer in 200 I.M. and 200 free relay, Gabriella Clayton in 200 medley relay and 200 free relay, and Cece Ramirez had three wins, 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, and 400 free relay, Girls final score; Paso Robles 118/Atascadero 52.

The boys faced a closely contested meet, but pulled away with the win. Final score; Paso 93/Atascadero 74. Top times for the boys came from Gavin Hughes and Grant Scheiffele. Hughes had first place finishes in the 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 500 free, and 400 free relay. Scheiffele joined Hughes on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays in addition to earning 2 individual first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Other top times for the day came from Jasen Line in the 100 backstroke and 400 free relay and also Zach Tucker in the 200 medley relay and 100 breaststroke.

Girls and Boys are both 3-3 in PAC 8 competition. Next meet is the Clovis West Invitational on April 21 & 22.
