Bearcat swimmers and divers score well at Clovis West Invitational

Bearcat swimmers and divers amassed 44 personal best performances and qualified in 9 CIF events at the Clovis West Invitational on April 21-22.

This prestigious swim and dive meet boasts more than 1,400 athletes representing more than 40 teams and is considered to be the largest high school meet of it’s kind on the west coast. The PRHS varsity swim and dive team finished 8th overall in the combined scores, 8th in the boys division, and 7th in the girls division.

Diver Cori Southward took third place overall in the boys 1-meter springboard earning a CIF qualifying score of 322.75. Breanna Williams also advanced to the final round of diving and finished the day in 16th place with a score of 216.95.

The Lady Bearcat swimmers got onto the scoreboard with points from the 9th place 200 Medley Relay team of Cece Ramirez, Miranda Pasky, Sarah Clark, and Audrey Hughes, the 11th place 200 Free Relay team of Shannen Dodds, Clark, Ramirez and Raymond, and the 5th place 400 Free Relay team of Raymond, Emily Christian, Pasky and Hughes. All three relays earned CIF consideration times. Additionally, Raymond was 6th in the 200 Freestyle (2:00.33-CIF consideration), and 4th in the 500 Freestyle (5:16.88-CIF consideration). Hughes finished 5th in both her individual events, the 200 Free (1:58.05-CIF consideration) and 100 Free (54.34-CIF consideration).

On the boys side, top swims came from the 12th place 400 Free Relay team of Grant Scheiffele, Zach Tucker, John Nash and Gavin Hughes who clocked in at 3:30.55. Also, Hughes was 12th in the 200 IM (2:05.25) and 14th in the 100 Freestyle (49.99). Scheiffele scored the highest for the boys team earning 12th place in the 200 Free (1:49.55) and 5th place in the 100 Butterfly with a CIF consideration time of 54.56.

“Our team showed amazing spirit, camaraderie, and determination at the Clovis Invite,” says coach Jen Brown. “The times we posted show that we’re lined up to have very successful PAC 8 championship meet.”

The Bearcats have their final PAC 8 dual meet at home on Wednesday April 26, and then on to the PAC 8 championships on May 1-4 in San Luis Obispo.
