Bearcat weekend results for Oct. 6-7

–Paso Robles High School Director of Athletics, Anthony Morales, has announced the results of Bearcat athletics for Oct. 6-7.

Last Friday Oct. 6, 2017, our JV student football team defeated Arroyo Grande HS 44-13 and our varsity student football team defeated Arroyo Grande HS 28-7. Please note: Our freshman also won 6-0. This was a clean sweep. Congrats to our entire student football program.

On Saturday Oct. 7, 2017, our varsity cross country team participated in the Asics Clovis Invitational, referred to as the “Pre-State Meet.” The best cross country programs from San Diego to The Bay descended on Woodward Park on Saturday for the 39th annual ASICS Clovis Invitational. Here is a quick recap of how our Bearcats fared:

Led by Pablo Cortes (4th, 16:01) and Damian Gavilan (11th, 16:15), the varsity boys finished 2nd out of 35 in the Large School Division, getting beaten by a strong program from Rocklin (San Joaquin Section, Ranked #1 in SJS and #10 in State for D2). Our team score tied with another northern school, Bella Vista (Sacramento), it came down to our 6th runner to serve as the tie breaker. Fortunately for us, our #7 runner, Alex Ruiz, had a huge performance and surged into our #6 spot, breaking the tie and helping the Bearcats bring home some hardware from this prestigious meet. Also of note, the boys beat Arroyo Grande (#7 team in D2 for the Southern Section). With this being the 2nd time we have bested our league rivals, we expect to see our team break into the top 10 rankings this week for the first time this season. The Road to State is coming into focus, consistent improvement and solid racing will see our Bearcats representing Paso Robles at the State Meet for the first time ever as a Division 2 school.

On the girls side, we had a crew push through soreness, sickness and fatigue to end up with a faster team time than 2 weeks ago and a 19th place finish (out of 29 schools). Our Freshmen duo of Grace Chamberlain and Madi Loff led the way, finishing only 1 second apart. Some injuries have us operating at less than full strength, but we have big plans for a strong showing at the end of the season with a young and dangerous pack.

Please keep in mind we have some very exciting competition today:
Varsity women’s golf is in Santa Maria
Varsity women’s tennis is at Arroyo Grande HS
JV & Varsity men’s water polo is at Righetti HS
JV women’s tennis is home vs. Arroyo Grande HS
F/JV/Var. women’s volleyball is hosting Pioneer Valley HS and tonight we will be honoring Bearcat Mandy Snowbarger and long time Bearcat Coach DJ Bigelow. Wear either your Crimson and White or Seahawk Green and Blue and come support the Lady Bearcats.
