Bearcat wrestlers honored at school board meeting

– Bearcat wrestlers were recognized for winning Division 2 Central Section CIF championship at the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting held this week. The student athletes received a certificate and a Bearcat t-shirt.

Coach Nate Ybarra introduced the five athletes that qualified for the state championships. They are Peyton Kilber, weight class 152, who placed 5th, Joe Cicarelli, weight class 160, who placed 9th, Rylie Lowery, weight class 170, who placed 9th, Christian Davidson, weight class 195, who placed 9th, Leo Kemp, weight class 220, who placed 9th. They all will wrestle this weekend in Bakersfield at Mechanics bank arena.

Bearcats had their first ever girls’ team, with two wrestlers placing at CIF: Tianna Basoco, who placed 5th, and Denise Del la Cruz, placing 2nd.

Coach Nathaniel Yabara commented on how COVID-19 almost destroyed wrestling, but that these young men and women worked hard to bring the Bearcats back on top.
