Bearcat wrestlers place at Clovis West Shootout
High school sports highlights
–Nine Paso Robles High School varsity wrestlers competed at the 29th annual Clovis West Shootout on Saturday, with four placing in the top ten. Clovis won the tournament, with Paso Robles placing 14th overall.
Bearcat Blake Irysh, with four wins and one loss, placed third in the heavyweight division. It was his first loss, and it was to the returning State champion from Clovis. John Cabrall (195 pounds) and Nathan Garcia (152) each had three wins and two losses to place sixth in their weight class, and Julian Madrigal (145) had two wins and two losses for seventh place for Paso Robles.
Varsity girls’ basketball
–With three starters out due to injury, the Paso Robles High School girls’ basketball players faced Bakersfield High School at the SLO/Morro Bay Varsity Tournament and narrowly lost to the Drillers, 39-36 on Friday. Grace Rosa was the high scorer for the Bearcats with 16 points.
“The bench played really well,” said Bearcats Coach Heidi Wittstrom-Sill, “and I was proud of our effort and hustle. We are headed in the right direction, and are continuing to improve each day despite injuries to some very key players.”
On Saturday, the Bearcats lost to the Templeton Eagles, 45-34.
