Bearcats baseball beats Bakersfield, 9-2 


–The Paso Robles Bearcats beat the Bakersfield Drillers 9-2 Saturday afternoon at Barnhart Stadium. Two Paso Robles pitchers combined for a no-hitter.

Junior Jakob Wright started for the Bearcats and pitched five innings. He struck out eleven, issued three walks and gave up no hits. Sophomore Tanner O’Farrell pitched two innings and sealed the no-hitter.

Jakob Wright homered and doubled for the Bearcats. Wright had one RBI. C.J. Ontiveros hit a home run and had two RBI’s for the Bearcats. Chase Stratman went 2-3. Taylor Bonham went 1-3, and drove in two runs.

Under coach Jonathon Thornhill, the Bearcats improve to 4-0 for the season. They travel to Visalia on Wednesday to take on the Redwood Rangers (1-6).

Mens volleyball beats Mission Prep

The Bearcats won their first match of the season in dramatic fashion, 3-2 over Mission Prep, according to Paso Robles High School Volleyball Coach Scott Gardner.

The Paso Robles men’s volleyball team hosted Mission Prep on Thursday evening for their opening match of the 2020 season. Working through the rust of the off-season and the nervous energy of the first game of the season, Paso Robles was able to handle the pressure and hold off a determined Mission Prep team.

Mission Prep took an early one-set lead to apply more pressure to the Bearcats. The Bearcats turned to Senior Setter and Co-Captain, Caleb Wittwer, along with other Seniors; Josh Ramos, Tanner Ehlers, Brock Williams the other Co-Caption, the Bearcats were able to battle back and take a demanding 2-1 set lead in the best of 5 contest.

With senior Tanner Ehler serving and senior Cody Carr’s defensive play, the Bearcats kept the fourth set close, but they just could not put the Royal’s away.

The match went to a deciding fifth set. Junior Wil Reed stepped in with some crucial serves to build a Bearcat lead that they would not let slip away.
