Bearcats beat Atascadero Greyhounds

–The Paso Robles Bearcats beat Atascadero 42-25 Friday night in Atascadero. The Bearcats improve to 8-2 for the season and capture second place in the Pac-5 conference with a 3-1 record. Atascadero drops to 5-5 and 2-2.

Neither team scored in the first quarter.  The Bearcats, however,  made two touchdowns in each of the last three quarters.  They broke the game open in the third quarter with two touchdowns while holding the Greyhounds scoreless.   After three quarters, the Bearcats led 28-10.  A high-scoring fourth quarter ended with a final score of 42-25.

Sunday, play-off berths will be announced.  That’s when we’ll learn if Paso Robles High School advances, and where they’ll play.

Meanwhile, Coach Rich Schimke is finished for the season. Although Schimke was cleared of wrong-doing by the police and DA’s office, the school board suspended him for alleged inappropriate locker room behavior. Schimke will not coach for the remainder of this season.  He returned to the classroom last week to teach mathematics.

Coach Matt Carroll will lead the Bearcats into the play-offs.  The opponent and location will be determined Sunday.
