Bearcats beat Redding 5-4 Tuesday evening

–The Firecracker Baseball Classic wraps up today with three games at Barnhart Field at Paso Robles High School.

In the second game of a double header Tuesday, the Paso Robles Bearcats beat Redding 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single by Aaron Espinoza. Trailing 4-3 in their team’s final at bat, the Bearcats loaded the bases with no outs. Then Espinoza chopped a single past the second baseman which scored two runs. The Bearcats picked up the win Tuesday evening to advance to today’s championship round.

Bearcat Head Coach Jonathon Thornhill said, “Kudos to Redding and their team. They played well. They pitched well. It was a good, well-played baseball game, but the Bearcats battled back and won it at the end on the walk-off single by Espinoza.”

The Firecracker Baseball Classic championship games are Wednesday. The Bearcats play Redding’s NorCal All-Stars 16 and under team at 1 p.m. this afternoon. At 3:30 p.m., Colusa plays Redding’s 18 and under team. Then at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Templeton will play Atascadero for the championship. Templeton will be the home team in that final game at Barnhart Stadium on the campus of Paso Robles High School.
