Bearcats beat the Nipomo Titans at home game Friday

– The Paso Robles High School Bearcat Football team dominated the Nipomo Titans Friday night at War Memorial Stadium at Paso Robles High School. The Bearcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and led 27-12 at halftime. In the third quarter, Tyler Luna completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Leo Kemp to seal the victory. Jordan Orcutt kicked the extra point, and that was the only score in the second half.

The final score was 34-12. The Bearcats improve to 4-2 in the Mountain League, and 6-3 overall. Next Friday, the Bearcats host the Arroyo Grande Eagles in their final game of the regular season. The Eagles are 3-3 in conference, 4-5 overall. Friday night, AG beat Santa Ynez 62-21.

The Atascadero Greyhounds traveled to Lompoc Friday night to take on the Cabrillo Conquistadores. Unlike several recent games, Atascadero jumped out to an early lead and held on for the victory. Atascadero’s Skyler Silva kicked a field goal, and Diego Real ran for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Silva’s PAT gave the Greyhounds a 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Real scored a second rushing touchdown in the second quarter, and Skyler again kicked the PAT to put the Greyhounds up 17-0. Trey Cooks scored two rushing touchdowns later in the second quarter to put Atascadero up 31-7. Cabrillo completed a second TD pass with under a minute left in the second quarter to make the score 31-14 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Trey Cooks scored his third rushing touchdown and Cabrillo completed another touchdown pass. With seven minutes left to play, Dallas Parish caught a touchdown pass. Cabrillo scored again with under two minutes left. That was the final score 45-28.

With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 5-0 in the Mountain League. They’re 6-3 overall. The Greyhounds lost their first three games, but they’ve won their last six. They will wrap up their regular season next Friday against Pioneer Valley in Santa Maria.

Eagles vs Pirates

The Templeton Eagles beat the Morro Bay Pirates on a cool, overcast evening at the coast. The Eagles methodically conducted several long drives to control the ball in the first half. Landen Miller scored on a four-yard run with six minutes left in the first quarter. River Waltmire kicked the extra point. That was the score at the end of the first quarter, 7-0.

Early in the second quarter, Dylan Helmle intercepted a pass from Nick Johnson. Jan Martinus scored on a four-yard. River Waltmire kicked the extra point to make it 14-0. Dylan Kriling returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown, but Waltmire’s kick was blocked. That gave the Eagles a 20-0 lead. Morro Bay kicked a field goal late in the second quarter. The halftime score was 20-3.

In the third quarter, Aiden Wall caught in the air a Pirate fumble and carried to the 50-yard line. Johnny Peschong sacked Morro Bay’s quarterback Nick Johnson with eight minutes to play. Johnson finally threw a touchdown pass late in the game. That was the final score 27-9. The Eagles improve to 3-2 in the Ocean League. They are 6-3 overall. Morro Bay falls to 2-3, 4-5 overall.

Templeton will play their final regular season game next Friday night at San Luis Obispo High School. The Tigers are 4-1 in the Ocean League, 7-2 overall.
