Bearcats boys’ volleyball loses to Bullard Knights

Bearcats to compete against Atascadero tonight

– The Bearcats boys volleyball team hosted the Bullard Knights on Saturday. The Bullard program is led by Coach Roy Verduzco in his 39th season at the helm of the Knights. The Knights played the Arroyo Grande Eagles earlier on Saturday and finished their doubleheader in Paso.

The Knights came in with three senior captains and lots of experience on their side. With the inexperience of the Bearcats, the first two sets were rougher than expected. However, the Bearcats did a lot of growing in those first two sets, and were determined to make set three competitive, the Bearcats came out passing and serving much better. The level of play of the Knights was matched by the Bearcats, but a few key points went the Knights’ way and they ended up winning in straight sets.

The Bearcat and Knight programs have bonded the past five seasons and have hosted each other with post-game barbecues for the traveling program.

Coach Gardner “I would like to thank Roy Verduzco and his staff, players, and parents for their respect and gratitude, and the hosting of the Bearcats in the past,” said Bearcats Coach Scott Gardner. “I would also like to thank the families of the Bearcat Men’s Program and Booster Club for assisting the barbecue: the Chavez family for the chicken, the Smetzers and the Reeds for grilling and bringing side dishes, the McKinleys for all the cupcakes and cookies, Coach Austin and the Winstead family for the Gatorades, the Prowse and O’Farrell families for the water.”
