Bearcats girls soccer team loses to Independence, 3-2
Loss ends the season for the Bearcats
– The Paso Robles High School girls’ soccer team lost its opening game in the Central Section Playoffs Friday night at PRHS. The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Independence High School Falcons from Bakersfield scored three unanswered goals in the second half.
Independence scored the final, game-winning goal in the final two minutes of play when the ball bounced around directly in front of the Bearcats’ goal. Someone from Independence pushed the ball into the goal for the decisive score. The loss ends the season for the Bearcats. They finished the season with a record of 13-8-4. The Falcons advance in the playoffs. Their record is now 13-7-5.
Junior Lila Colegrove had one goal and one assist for the Bearcats. She ended the season with 22 goals.
Senior Briseida Guardado scored the other goal for the Bearcats. Senior Amayah Buenrostro had the other assist.
Saturday afternoon, the Bearcat boys soccer team hosts a first-round playoff game against Mendota. That game will be played at 4:00 pm Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Paso Robles.
The Bearcat girls’ basketball team travels to Orcutt for their first-round playoff game. Although Orcutt Academy beat the Bearcats earlier this season, the Paso Robles girls have won their last eight consecutive games.
