The Paso Robles Bearcats are set to host the Madera Coyotes tonight in a non-league challenge at War Memorial Stadium.

The Paso Robles High School varsity football team moved up in the state rankings from 362 to 305 this week, the biggest jump in PAC 7, after their 35-14 victory over the visiting Santa Ynez Pirates last Friday.

Against Santa Ynez, Paso rushed for 226 yards and passed for 251, with senior quarterback Gunnar Griffin leading the Bearcats (1-1). Griffin passed for two touchdowns and ran in another, was 11-for-20 passing with no interceptions and rushed five times for 30 yards.
Paso’s Nathaniel Harris ran for 147 yards on 14 carries, including a 73-yard touchdown run. Jimmy Pacheco had two catches for 85 yards while Bailey Gaither had four catches for 71 yards.

The Bearcats are hoping to build on last week’s win tonight against Madera (1-1) before the start of PAC 7 play next week against Righetti. The community is encouraged to come out and support the PRHS football players tonight – Junior varsity plays at 5 p.m. and the varsity takes the field at 7:30 p.m.
