Bearcats claim double overtime win over Knights

Girls’ basketball

Paso Robles secured a 62-58 double overtime win against the visiting St. Joseph Knights on Friday.

Kimmy Buchanan was the high scorer for the Bearcats with 24 points; her seven points in double overtime helped to secure the victory. Grace Rosa added 13 points and Bailey Lewis had 12 for Paso Robles. Lewis made two clutch free throws in the second overtime, while Nathalie Barahona made a free throw to put the Bearcats up by four points with 13 seconds remaining.

“The girls played hard, they hung in there and got the win,” said Coach Heidi Wittstrom-Sill. “Several girls fouled out and the bench stepped up and played well – very proud of our effort tonight.”

On Wednesday night, the SLO Tigers outlasted the Paso Robles girls’ basketball team, handing the Bearcats a 45-30 loss. Grace Rosa led the Bearcats with 16 points and Buchanan added 13.

The Bearcats (1-1 PAC 8, 2-10 overall) are on the road to Atascadero Monday to face the Greyhounds (1-1 PAC 8, 3-8 overall) at 5:30 p.m. Also on Monday, the JV girls will host the Greyhounds at 4 p.m. and the Frosh team will take the court at 7 p.m. at Paso Robles.

Boys’ basketball
The varsity boys’ basketball players hosted the St. Joseph Knights on Friday night, but were unable to secure a win, losing 77-38.

Earlier this week, the Bearcats traveled to San Luis Obispo Wednesday night and were defeated by the Tigers, 55-35. Ty Jones and Marshall Wiesner scored six points apiece for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats (0-2 PAC 8, 4-9 overall) are on the road to Atascadero to face the Greyhounds (0-2 PAC 8, 8-5 overall) on Monday at 7 p.m. Also on Monday, the JV players will play host to Atascadero at 4 p.m. and the Frosh team takes the court at 5:30 p.m.
