Bearcats beat the Rebels 4-1

–The Paso Robles Bearcats beat the Quartz Hill Rebels 4-1 Friday afternoon at Barnhart Field to advance to the semifinals in the CIF Playoffs.

The Bearcats will play Walnut Tuesday afternoon in southern California.

The Bearcats scored two runs in the 3rd inning and two more in the 5th. Sophomore Ryan Harvel pitched all seven innings for the Bearcats- his first complete game for PRHS. Harvel loaded the bases in the second, but got out unscathed. The only run he allowed was a solo home run in the sixth.

The Bearcat defense was flawless. The infield snagged a dozen groundballs and consistently threw out the hitters at first. In the top of the seventh, the lead-off Rebel singled. The next batter, however, hit a sharp grounder to second and the Bearcats turned a double play to end the Rebels’ final threat.

The Bearcats (26-7) will play Walnut (23-9) Tuesday afternoon down south. On Friday, Walnut beat El Segundo 3-1 to join the Bearcats in the semifinals.

The Bearcats have not reached the CIF semifinals since 2006. The last time they played in the championship game was 1978, with coach Dewey Stroud in the lineup. The last time the Bearcats won the championship was in the 1950’s.
