Big Creek Lumber offering school garden grants
– As the school year kicks off, Big Creek Lumber has announced a redwood garden bed grant program for schools in the communities in which Big Creek does business. This fall, 10 garden bed kits will be awarded and delivered to ten recipient schools.
Over the years, Big Creek Lumber has donated hundreds of garden beds to schools and will be continuing the tradition. Vice President Ellen Rinde says, “Not only does gardening teach the kids about how to grow things, it also encourages eating right and sets a foundation for healthy lifestyles.”
Applications are available by clicking here or can be picked up at any of their five retail yards in Paso Robles, Atwater, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
Completed applications must be returned to the yards in person by Saturday, Oct. 31. All eligible schools will be entered in a drawing and two schools will be selected in the vicinity of each yard at random. The kits will be delivered in the early spring to the schools so they can get their gardens planted for spring.
