Big rigs collide in early morning wreck

41-46-highwayA semi truck driver who failed to properly brake, rear-ended a 2008 Saturn and another big rig on south bound Highway 41 at Highway 46 outside of Paso Robles early this morning, California Highway Patrol reports. Two people were taken to the hospital.

At about 1:10 a.m. this morning, Christopher Park, 24, of Fresno, was stopped in his Saturn behind Richard Chrisssakis, 44, of Bakersfield, stopped in his 2011 Freightliner. They were waiting for a flagger who was stopping traffic for southbound Highway 41 due to construction taking place on Highway 46, west of 41, the report says.

Pastor Garcia, 51, of Elk Grove, was driving a 2007 Freightliner southbound on Highway 41 approaching the stopped vehicles. Garcia saw the stopped vehicles and then looked down beside him to grab a water, the report says. When he looked back up he realized he was closer than he thought, the report says.

Garcia applied the brakes and turned to the left to avoid colliding with the stopped vehicles. Garcia then rear-ended the Saturn pushing the Saturn to the righr. The left side of the Saturn collided with right rear bumper of the 2011 Freightliner. The right side of Garcia’s truck then collided with the left rear side and side of the 2011 Freightliner.

Park and his passenger Kayla Singley, 24, of Fresno, were taken by ambulance to Sierra Vista Hospital. Park sustained major injuries to his face. Singly complained of pain and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, the report says.

Speed and inattention are a factor in this collision, however, alcohol or drugs impairment are not suspected, the report says.
