Bob Cantu basketball camp returns this summer 

–Paso Robles native and Paso Robles High School Class of ’92 graduate Bob Cantu, is hosting the 22nd Annual Bob Cantu’s Fundamental Basketball Camp in San Luis Obispo County this summer. The camp is scheduled at Paso Robles High School for June 18-21 and at Mission Prep High School in San Luis Obispo June 25-28 and July 9-12.

Cantu was a three-year varsity player at Paso Robles High School and started his basketball coaching career at Mission Prep, Cuesta College and Cal Poly. He is now in his 22nd year as a college coach and his second year as Assistant Coach at the University of Portland (UOP). Prior to Portland, Cantu spent three seasons with the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), and 12 seasons at the University of Southern California (USC) as an assistant coach, associate head coach, and as interim head coach for the final 15 games of the 2012-13 season. The 2012-13 season was highlighted by wins at cross-town rival University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and over 11th-ranked Arizona at home.

As a collegiate coach Cantu has helped lead teams to five National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournaments and 10 postseason appearances. Cantu has recruited or coached 14 National Basketball Association (NBA) players and five NBA first round draft picks, and is consistently named as one of the nation’s top assistant coaches. Cantu brings his vast knowledge, experience, and basketball acumen to teach the fundamentals of the sport to boys and girls ages 4-12, who want to learn and develop basketball skills. Over 8,000 students have attended since the camp’s inception.
