Bob Cantu moves basketball camp to St. Rose School
– Bob Cantu, a Central Coast native and former University of Southern California basketball coach, announced that his annual basketball camp in Paso Robles will move to a new location for the upcoming session scheduled for June 16–19.
The camp will now take place at St. Rose School in Paso Robles, where Cantu attended junior high. Activities will be held in the school’s Parish Center gym.
Cantu said the decision to relocate the camp, which has been held at Paso Robles High School for more than 25 years, was due to “an increase in financial charges and lack of loyalty.” He said returning to St. Rose School reflects his connection to the place where he was a student-athlete.
A 1992 graduate of Paso Robles High School, Cantu also owns Marv’s Pizza and Sports Bar in Paso Robles. He is currently expanding with a second location in downtown San Luis Obispo. The new restaurant will operate under the name Bob Cantu’s Pizza and Sports Bar, using the same ingredients and menu that Marv’s Pizza has served since 1991.
Marv’s Pizza has been in Paso Robles since 1991 and is one of the city’s longest-operating eateries.
As a collegiate basketball coach, Cantu has led teams to five NCAA Tournaments and 10 postseason appearances. He has recruited or coached 14 NBA players, including five first-round draft picks, and has been consistently named among the nation’s top assistant coaches.
Since 1997, more than 11,000 campers have attended his Bob Cantu Basketball Camps in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo.
