Boys and Girls Clubs collecting PPE donations

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast Establishes Key Community Partnerships

–Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast (BGCMCC) will open its Evans Park Public Housing clubsite in Santa Maria to collect personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical personnel and facilities throughout the Central Coast.

“Our local hospitals and medical facilities are critical operations in our region,” Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast’s CEO Jeremy Deming said. “We take their needs for an appropriate channel to direct PPE donations seriously.”

The new PPE donation collection program began on Monday, March 30 at the Evans Park Public Housing Boys & Girls Club located at 200 W. Williams St. in Santa Maria, in conjunction with the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County and the Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management. The collection program will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

BGCMCC employees will be trained by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to collect and screen donated items. The CERT will be responsible for quality control and collection of donor information and will transport the collected materials to a central storage facility at the Foodbank’s warehouse.

They are accepting:

  • N95 masks (NIOSH-approved)
  • Surgical and procedure masks (FDA-approved)
  • Exam gloves (powder free; nitrile or latex preferred)
  • Isolation gowns/coveralls
  • Eye protection
  • Face Shields
  • Goggles
  • Safety Glasses
  • Thermometers
  • Disposable
  • Non-contact/temporal scanner
  • Hospital-grade cleaning wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer

 

Under these criteria:

  • Sealed, original packaging
  • Not expired (with the exception of NIOSH-approved N95 masks in accordance with the Emergency Use Authorization)
  • No stains, odors or tears

 

BGCMCC has also developed a partnership with the San Luis Obispo County Foodbank offering distribution:

  • Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Paso Robles at the AFM Senior Center
  • Every 2nd Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Atascadero at Santa Rosa Elementary
  • Every 4th Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in San Miguel at the San Miguel Mission
  • Every 2nd Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in San Miguel at Lillian Larsen Elementary
  • Every 1st Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Shandon at Shandon High School
  • Every 3rd Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Paso Robles at Virginia Peterson Elementary
  • Every 2nd and 4th Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Paso Robles at Paso Robles Housing Authority at Oak Park
