Brendon Cortese dies at 23

Brendon Samuel Cortese.

–Brendon Samuel Cortese, beloved son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, and friend made his last wildly explicit and sarcastic comment on June 7, 2017. He loved with a passion family, his friends, his Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and all music, from Dylan to Atmosphere to Bob Marley. He was protective of all, especially his sisters. He loved fishing trips to Pyramid Lake with his dad and his friends and their near annual trips to the Holiday Bowl and other sporting events. He loved seeing Portugal the Man live in the Netherlands with his mom and exploring new cities and people. He loved shopping sprees and Starbucks runs with his sister. He loved going to Vegas with his uncle. He loved Friday lunch dates with his grandmother. And he hated things just as passionately injustice in the world, being told what to do, hypocrites, the New York Yankees, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Toyota FJ cars, and waiting in line.

Brendon was born on May 28, 1994, to Stephanie and Ken Cortese, of Atascadero, Calif. He is survived by his parents; three sisters: Amanda, Angela, and Marissa; maternal grandmother, Ruth Grzybicki, of Paso Robles; uncle and aunt Adam and Sonja Grzybicki; cousins: Katrina, Alex, Austin and Sofia; nephews and niece: Deven, Dallas, Preston, Thomas and Addison, who will always remember him as the “greatest uncle ever.” He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy; maternal grandfather, Bernie; and paternal aunt and uncle, Bernadette and Ralph. A Celebration of his Life was held at Heilmann Regional Park in Atascadero. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Brendon’s kindness, please be kind to someone. Call a friend or relative you haven’t reached out to recently. Forgive someone. All acts of kindness are appreciated.
