Brush fire started by illegal fireworks contained by fire crews

–At approximately 12:03 a.m., Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to the area of Navajo and Mohawk Ct. for a vegetation fire.

The first fire engine arrived at scene and reported an approximately 20’x40’ spot burning up-slope in ornamental vegetation behind 203 Mohawk Ct.

The fire was quickly contained by the Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, with no damage to any structures.

Cause of the fire was determined to be from illegal fireworks that were found to be ignited in the roadway adjacent to the vegetation.

Residents are advised that fireworks are illegal in the City of Paso Robles and warn that anyone caught lighting or possessing even “safe and sane” fireworks in the city may be cited and fined. Misdemeanor violations are punishable by a fine. In addition, anyone found responsible for setting a fire using any type of fireworks may be responsible to pay for property damage, suppression costs and may be charged with a felony. This liability also applies to parents of juveniles found responsible for causing a fire.

Two fire engines, one squad and one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles responded.
