Brush fire ignites in riverbed 

–On Friday, June 1, at approximately 9:20 p.m. the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to a report of a vegetation fire at Highway 101 and 24th Street in Paso Robles.

First arriving firefighters found a 50’ by 100’ vegetation fire in the riverbed burning in and around the trees and brush. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes and worked to fully extinguish the fire over the next two hours.

Two fire engines and one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles responded. Under the city’s automatic aid agreements, two fire engines and one Battalion Chief from Cal Fire/SLO County, one fire engine from Templeton Fire responded to assist. Sixteen firefighters responded to the incident with traffic control assistance from Paso Robles Police Department. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services reminds all residents to ensure that they have proper vegetation clearance around their homes. The weed abatement deadline was June 1, and most residents have done an outstanding job.
