Cal Fire conducting prescribed burn near Chorro Creek
– Cal Fire San Luis Obispo will conduct a prescribed burn near Chorro Creek as part of its Vegetation Management Program in coordination with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California State Parks, and PG&E/Diablo Canyon Fire.
The operation will cover about 260 acres of vegetation. The burn is scheduled for multiple days between Tuesday, Sept. 23, and Friday, Sept. 26, and, if needed, again between Tuesday, Sept. 30, and early October. Work is planned to begin at about 10 a.m. each day, weather permitting.
The burn will take place near Highway 1 between Adobe and Gilardi roads. Cal Fire said the project is intended to reduce the buildup of flammable vegetation that can fuel wildfires and to improve long-term ecological health by promoting native species and biodiversity.
Fire personnel will be on site throughout the operation, and Cal Fire said every precaution will be taken to ensure safe execution under favorable weather conditions. Smoke may be visible in nearby areas, and residents are asked not to report the fire unless it is an unrelated emergency.
