Cal Fire plans prescribed burn near Santa Margarita next week
Officials to burn 25 acres in effort to reduce wildfire risk
– Cal Fire / San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, in collaboration with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District, the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council, and California Polytechnic State University, will conduct a prescribed burn as part of its Vegetation Management Program.
The prescribed burn is scheduled for one day between Monday, April 21, and Thursday, April 24, beginning around 10 a.m. The operation will take place on private lands approximately 20 minutes east of Santa Margarita, near the intersection of Las Pilitas Road and Parkhill Road.
The burn will cover approximately 25 acres of vegetation in a controlled effort to reduce the buildup of flammable material that contributes to catastrophic wildfires. The operation also aims to support long-term ecological health by promoting native species and improving biodiversity.
Fire personnel will be on site throughout the operation. All precautions will be taken to ensure the burn is conducted safely and under favorable weather conditions. Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas. Residents are advised not to report the fire unless there is an emergency unrelated to the prescribed burn.
Cal Fire remains committed to reducing wildfire risk through strategic partnerships, community collaboration, and responsible land stewardship.
