Cal Poly opens play in West Virginia Super Regional

    – The Cal Poly Mustang baseball team begins play Friday in its first-ever Super Regional. The Mustangs play a best-of-three series at West Virginia. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:00 am (this) Friday morning. That’s our time. In Morgantown, it starts at 12:00 noon.

Last weekend, the Mustangs won the UCLA Regional in Westwood by winning each of three games. They beat Virginia Tech 6-2, and beat St. Mary’s University twice: 14-1 and 5-2. Meanwhile, St. Mary’s beat UCLA twice. That eliminated UCLA from their own Regional.

Cal Poly Pitcher Griffin Naess is expected to start Friday’s game. Former Bearcat Carson Turnquist is likely to pitch in Saturday’s game. If necessary, Josh Volmerding may start Sunday’s decisive game. At the UCLA Regional, each of the three starters pitched well.
