Cal Poly opera students to perform ‘Venus and Adonis’ and ‘In the Market for Love’
Production includes nearly 50 Cal Poly students
– The Cal Poly Student Opera Theatre will present “Venus and Adonis” and “In the Market for Love” on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Spanos Theatre.
The program will feature two one-act operas: John Blow’s “Venus and Adonis,” which tells the story of lovers from Greek mythology, and Jacques Offenbach’s “In the Market for Love,” which takes place at a farmers’ market.
About 50 Cal Poly students will participate in the fully staged production with a chamber orchestra, both onstage and behind the scenes. In addition to the opera singers, Theatre and Dance Department students will provide choreography, and students will assist backstage with props, costumes, and staging.
Kaitrin Cunningham of the Music Department will serve as director and producer, Scott Glysson as conductor, Paul Woodring as coach, and Laina Babb of the Theatre and Dance Department as costume designer.
The production is part of Cal Poly’s 33rd annual Open House.
Tickets cost $22 for general admission and $12 for students. Click here to purchase.
